Google Photos is an application that is linked to our Google account and stores all our pictures or videos on our Android phones. The 15GB storage is free from Google which is enough to store pictures. However, often 15GB storage gets full and has trouble backing up new pictures from the device. In this scenario, multiple steps can be taken; for example, the first one is to buy a storage plan from Google or to delete some unnecessary pictures from Google Photos.
In this post, we will walk through the steps to delete backup photos specifically from Google Photos.
How to Delete Only Backup Photos from Google Photos
To delete the backup photos, we will utilize the PC or laptop. We will disable the backup & sync from the settings as it will be helpful in only deleting the images from Google Photos instead of the device gallery. To do so, follow the instruction described below.
Step 1: Open Google Photos Settings on your Smartphone
First, launch the Google Photos app and then hit the “profile” icon. Next, select the “Photos Settings” option:
Step 2: Disable Backup
Now, select the “Backup” option and toggle the switch of the “Backup” to turn it off:
Step 3: Visit Google Photos From on PC/Laptop Browser
Now, open the “Google Photos” on the browser of the PC/Laptop by tapping on this link.
Step 4: Select the Pictures
Next, select the pictures which need to be deleted by clicking on the small checkmark icon on the pictures.
Step 5: Delete the Pictures
Click on the “Delete” option and then choose the “Move to Trash” option. The deleted picture will move to the “Bin” section for 60 days of Google Photos:
Step 6: Permanently Delete the Pictures (Optional)
Click on the “Trash” option and then choose the “Empty Trash” option:
These steps only remove the pictures from Google Photos.
Bonus Tip: How to Delete Pictures from Both Google Photos and Device Gallery
To free up some device storage space along with Google Photos, we can remove images from both places. It is not important whether the “Backup” is enabled or not because in both cases, pictures will delete from both devices. To delete pictures from both Google Photos and smartphone gallery, we will follow the below-mentioned steps.
Step 1: Select the Pictures
Launch the Google Photos application, and long-press the pictures that need to be removed from the device.
Step 2: Delete the Picture
Tap on the “Delete” option and choose the “Move to Bin” option. Snaps will get removed from the device gallery and move to the “bin” section of Google Photos:
Step 3: Open the Pictures in the Bin
Now, hit the “Library” option and then choose the “Bin” option.:

After that, long-press the “Pictures” and choose the “Delete” option to permanently delete the pictures.
